The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD is an HD remake on the Wii U of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, originally released on GameCube and Wii. It’s another 3D adventure game in the Legend of Zelda series. This review is actually going to be somewhat of a re-review of Twilight Princess as well as a comparison between the original version on the Wii and this one. I’m not personally familiar with the GameCube version, but I’ve seen that it’s more or less the Wii version except not mirrored and having the gameplay functions mapped to buttons instead of using the motion controls. So that means I’m going to assume you know something about the Zelda series by now and that you’re somewhat familiar with Twilight Princess in general at this point. I won’t give away tons of spoilers, but mild ones are bound to happen and probably more...

Super Metroid
10Perfect

Super Metroid

Super Metroid is the third installment in the Metroid series of 2D adventure-platformer shooters and is on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The events of the game follow the events of the previous two. The game will explain it at that start, but basically the last Metroid is in captivity being researched by scientist when you, the bounty hunter Samus Aran, receive a distress call from the research station to find the Metroid stolen. After escaping the self-destructing lab, you tail the thief to Zebes and begin your search for creature and its captors. Are you a bad enough babe to save the Metroid? Luckily, the story isn’t terribly important for the gameplay. You can skip the first two games (and even ignore the story at the start of this one) and still play through the game just fine. The reason is because the game is very open-ended. You land...

Its your last chance in new school

Its your last chance in new school

Its your last chance in new school is a visual novel computer game available on Steam. Please note that the typo and lack of capitalization in the title are taken from what I’ve seen via Steam and not an accident on my part, though I’m sure the rest of the mistakes in the review will be my own. The story is fairly simple. You’re a kid in a new school that aspires to be cool and get with all of the women. That’s pretty much it. The gameplay is pretty much like any other visual novel. You read text boxes in various locations with various characters and every now and then you get to make a decision on what to do next. Pretty standard stuff for the genre. I really wish there was more to preface this, but that’s about all I can do without spoiling plot points. This game...

Donkey Kong 64
8Great

Donkey Kong 64

Donkey Kong 64 is a 3D platforming collect-a-thon adventure by Rareware on the Nintendo 64. King K. Rool, the croc with the crown, floats his fortress up to DK Isles to finally finish off that meddlesome monkey once and for all. However, his seafaring lair runs into some technical problems, along with his secret weapon that is set to destroy the island. In an effort stall for time and keep Donkey Kong from stopping his plans, he steals DK’s precious hoard of golden bananas and kidnaps the other Kongs. It’s up to DK to save his friends and work together to get back those golden bananas and stop King K. Rool before it’s too late. The game is primarily a 3D platformer, with most characters being able to run, jump, swim, attack, and various other contextual actions. Depending on who you’re using, you may have some slightly different abilities like...

Sakura Santa

Sakura Santa

Sakura Santa is a visual novel by Winged Cloud for computers, available on Steam. The reason I’m reviewing this is because it is available on Steam in the context that it is, in fact, a game. As this is the first one I’m talking about in the Sakura series, I guess I should explain a little bit about the series in general. Basically, this is an ongoing series of visual novel games, not necessarily related to one another, that seem to rely heavily on sexualized anime women and suggestive situations. They usually also involve some type of fantasy element to their setting and story. As visual novels, they don’t have much in the way of gameplay, but they will often have sections where you can choose from branching paths in the story. To be honest, the real reason I want to start talking about these is because I tend to...

Explody Bomb

Explody Bomb

Explody Bomb is an automatically side-scrolling arcade type game for the Wii U. The game nicely explains the general gameplay and semblance of a plot the first time you play. The idea is that you’re supposed to play through town while destroying the airborne enemies that try to pass while also keeping the bomb you’re carrying from smacking into buildings and exploding. There’s not the deepest lore in this game because it’s meant to emulate arcade titles from years gone by… I guess. So let’s get into the gameplay. This game is actually designed with the Wii U in mind. You use the gamepad to control everything. You use the left stick to move your automatically scrolling pilot on the TV up and down. You can hit ZL, ZR, or A to shoot. You have three bullets that slowly regenerate after you fire them. Your aim up here is to...

New Super Mario Bros.
7Good

New Super Mario Bros.

New Super Mario Bros. is a side-scrolling platformer for the Nintendo DS. The Super Mario Bros. series hadn’t seen much in the way of truly new games in quite some time, with their last major installment being Super Mario World on the SNES and not in name since Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES. So it was high time the brothers jumped back in action. Thus, New Super Mario Bros. was made. It may seem a bit tired now, but let’s take a look back at the one that started this retro revival of mustachioed masters. New Super Mario Bros. plays a lot like other games in the Super Mario Bros. series. You run and jump your way through levels, stomping on enemies and collecting coins in the process. You’ll see lots of familiar things like koopas, goombas, red bricks, green pipes, and even good ol’ Bowser. You’ll just...

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
9Amazing

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is a free-to-play role-playing game for mobile devices. The game takes place in a popular Star Wars bar-like setting known as the Cantina. However, in this particular Cantina there are a number of holographic game tables where you can play a small variety of games. There’s not really any plot development to be had further than the few introductions by the sparse non-player characters telling you how to play and challenging you to play more. Please note that this review is based solely off of my own free to play experience and any exclusion of content will most likely be due to new updates coming to this ever-changing development of the game. I assume the basics will more or less stay the same. There’s also a lot to take in, even if there’s not really much story to be had, so I’ll do my best...

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is an adventure game for the Wii U. It is also an HD remake of the The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the GameCube. For this review I’ll be talking about Wind Waker as a game in general rather than pointing out the differences between the remake and the original. I’ll also be assuming you’re familiar with general Zelda concepts either from personal experience or by checking out some of my previous Zelda reviews. Lastly, let it be noted that while you can play with game with a Wii U Pro Controller, I played almost all of the game using the gamepad. With all of that out of the way, let’s set sail! The game opens with legends of a hero battling evil and returning peace to the land, as is familiar in most of the Zelda games by...

Fairune
4Poor

Fairune

Fairune is a 2D puzzle adventure game with some RPG elements available on the Nintendo 3DS eshop. There’s hardly much of a story and it will give you the brief overview of it right when you start. Basically, there’s some evil creature that you need to destroy. So you need to find three magical icons to unlock the creature’s lair an take it out. Pretty simple, and the game itself kind of just hints at the story being meaningless too, so it’s not just me. The gameplay mainly consists of two things. Early on you’ll able to feely explore a bit without needing to worry about monsters until you quickly come across a sword. At this point the real game begins. You’ll notice that combat here requires walking directly into enemies. If the enemies are weak enough, or if you’re strong enough, they’ll die and give you experience, but they’ll...
